Jeffrey Dahmer murdered 17 men and boys in the American Midwest, becoming one of history’s most infamous serial killers. This is the story before that story. Jeff (Disney Channel’s Ross Lynch) is an awkward teenager struggling to make it through high school with a family life in ruins. His bizarre behavior at school attracts unexpected friends, a group of band-nerds who form The Dahmer Fan Club, headed by Derf Backderf (Alex Wolff, “Patriots Day”). But as they near graduation, Jeff’s depravity continues to take hold, and he spirals further out of control. Based on Backderf’s critically acclaimed 2012 graphic novel and written for the screen and directed by Marc Meyers, MY FRIEND DAHMER is the haunting, sad, funny, true story of Jeffrey Dahmer in high school.

My Friend Dahmer is an incredible movie. It’s no where near a bad movie and I wouldn’t exactly call it horror. It has it’s moments but isn’t necessarily very scary.
  • Snooze

For a movie about a serial killer, this was quite boring.
  • Absolutely Superb

One of the top five films of 2017/early 2018. I felt so much sympathy for the protagonist even though we all know how the story ultimately ends. Acting was top–notch and screenwriting was, too. How they got Ross Lynch, a kid from the Disney Channel, to play this role is beyond me because that seemed like a move out of left field at first, but holy cow that kid is TALENTED and just nailed it. Not too fast but not too slow in terms of pacing during the film...just enough detail and conflict to keep me on my toes. I enjoyed how the film didn't paint Dahmer as a menace lurking in the shadows laughing maniacally, but as a troubled kid who is desperate for some sort of direction and support that he never finds. At one point he even says, "I wish I had a best friend." Even though there's no excuse for what he went on to do in his adult life, that just broke my heart. Maybe if we pay attention to lonely kids like him in schools, we can prevent them from going out into the world and wreaking havoc and chaos.
  • Absolutely Amazing....

Even though it wasn’t a movie about what was in Dahmer’s mind it gives you an idea on what he could’ve been thinking and why he did what he did. I felt like it was such a great job what all the actors did. Got to give credits to Ross Lynch though he tried to put himself in what could’ve happen inside Dahmer’s mind and it work out perfectly in my opinion. Some people may not have like the idea of having a movie about a serial killer but I think it’s a good way to see the signs and prevent from having others like him. In general shock for what the movie had to offer such an incredible movie I would totally recommend it.
  • Horrible Movie!!!!

It was the most boring insipid film I've seen in quite a while! Might even be the worst. I paid for it, that being the only reason I watched it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND! I am an avid film watcher and this was pathetic.
  • Very dark

When I first saw the trailer for this film. It looked interesting and I thought it would show why he killed those men but it didn’t. This film was so different than anything I have ever watched before. I could not eat anything while watching this film because of some of the dark scenes with the animals. Overall, Ross Lynch did an amazing job I knew he went through a lot mentally becoming his character but the whole time I felt amazed how far Lynch has come from being on my favorite Disney show Austin and Ally to starring in this film. Even though I wasn’t alive when Dahmer killed those men I enjoyed watching the slightest signs of what started his motive to be a serial killer.
  • A novel take on Dahmer’s story

I enjoyed My Friend Dahmer a lot, the cast and their acting are excellent and the story is not what you’d expect from the re-enactment of the life of a famous killer. The ambiance and the story are riveting and ones attention never wanes. There’s something interesting on getting to know Dahmer’s pre-serial killer life, it resonates in my mind because I wonder how many killers are made this way by our society. Check this film out, it made me think, I found it very deep and sincere
  • Loved the movie

After watching documentaries and reading about Dahmer, this movie is the missing part of the story, it shows what he went through as a teenager and how his mind fell into serial killer mode.
  • Interesting

It’s interesting understanding how this guy grew up and the environment that drew out the killer he became.

While I agree with some of the comments saying it was a bit slow paced I honestly think it made the movie more realistic. Life doesn’t move very fast all the time and the dramatic pacing made it feel like you were watching a real conversation. So while yes It was a little slow, it didn’t take away from the plot. It also ended up being an incredible and necessary build up to seeing Dahmers slow decent into the mindset of a monster. Lynch’s performance was amazing. I didn’t even recognize him and he had be honestly scared of him by the end which is a good thing. Because I used to watch a lot of his old Disney channel stuff when I was a kid I was nervous that maybe I would only see that and not be able to fully believe his Dahmer. But boy oh boy was I wrong. He is an amazing talented actor who gave a realistic, chilling, and 11/10 performance. My heart was like pounding through the whole thing as the audience saw him slowly get pushed to his edge. Brilliant ending too. Great movie, I definitely recommend.
