"One ring to rule them all. One ring to find them. One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them." -- J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings -- In the conclusion of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings, as armies mass for a final battle that will decide the fate of the world -- and powerful, ancient forces of Light and Dark compete to determine the outcome -- one member of the Fellowship of the Ring is revealed as the noble heir to the throne of the Kings of Men. Yet, the sole hope for triumph over evil lies with a brave hobbit, Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood - "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," "Everything is Illuminated"), who, accompanied only by his loyal friend Sam and the hiddeous, wretched Gollum, ventures deep into the very dark heart of Mordor on his seemingly impossible quest to destroy the Ring of Power. Also starring Academy Award-nominee Viggo Mortensen ("A History of Violence," "Eastern Promises"), Academy Award-nominee and Golden Globe-winner Ian McKellan ("X-Men," TV's "Rasputin"), Orlando Bloom ("Troy," "The Pirates of the Caribbean” trilogy), Liv Tyler ("The Strangers" "The Incredible Hulk") and Academy Award and Golden Globe-winner Cate Blanchett ("Elizabeth," "The Aviator"). Winner of 11 Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director!

  • Almost as good as the book

    By Rakfamily
I say almost coz the book provides a few chapters in the end not seen in the movie. Yet with the nature and special effects and imagination present, the story is very much alive. Good job all.

  • Amazing!

The best of the three films. The story was written very well, the screenwriter did an amazing job. Weta Workshops Outstanding CGI was the best I've seen when I first saw it around 2009. And of course, the performance's of Sean Austin, Elijah Wood, Andy Serkis, and the rest of the cast was off the charts incredible. Howard Shore's Score tied the whole movie together, and can I say that Sam is just the best character ever? Everything about this movie is great. For those of you who want good acting, amazing CGI, a good story, sad parts, sweet parts, romantic parts, action, violence, suspense, terror, horror, and a great soundtrack. Buy this movie don't rent. You'll find everything you want in a movie right here.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, is the best movie in the trilogy, and in my opinion, the best movie ever. Peter Jackson captivates audiences in an epic, emotional, powerful, moving, spectacular, thrilling masterpiece of a movie. Because it is the last film in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, you have gotten to know the characters the most, so you feel the most connected to them. The score by Howard Shore is breathtaking, the storytelling is riveting, and the characters are great. All the props, costumes, and set pieces are beautiful, terrifying, and grand, and makes you feel like you are in the movie. All the performances from the actors, (especially Andy Serkis as the treacherous Gollum) are perfect. Buy this movie or you have not seen true beauty.

So good. Just buy. Characters plot everything is great. I normally write long reviews, but I can't describe how much I love this movie.
  • The Greatest Motion Picture of All Time.

Gonna throw it out: The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King IS the Greatest Movie ever made. Better than The Godfather, even though they are competely different. Better than all those older Hollywood classics, and many others. This movie may have a lot of visual effects, but to balance that out, there is are jaw dropping battles, fantastic and emotional acting, and a masterclass of film making. I have watched the trilogy a LOT, and every time i watch this one, I get the same feelings. This is a must see. THE Definitive Movie of the last Century. All in all, The Return of the King is just AMAZING. Winner of 11 Academy Awards, I will never stop watching this. I appreciate the whole team who made this movie and the trilogy, most notably the cast, Howard SHore for his magnificent music, and Peter Jackson for makng my #1 favorite film. No other movie Ive seen in my 23 years of life has ever come close to touching this.
