From Alexander Payne, the creator of the Oscar-winning SIDEWAYS, set in Hawaii, THE DESCENDANTS is a sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic journey for Matt King (George Clooney) an indifferent husband and father of two girls, who is forced to re-examine his past and embrace his future when his wife suffers a boating accident off of Waikiki. The event leads to a rapprochement with his young daughters while Matt wrestles with a decision to sell the family’s land handed down from Hawaiian royalty and missionaries.

  • Depressing and uninspired

    I wish I hadn’t watched it.
  • Caution: Realistic people portrayed in this movie

For viewers that enjoy movies where at least one character has super powers and has to figure out to use them to save the galaxy or characters that can dodge machine gun fire from 20 feet or enjoy a car exploding every five minutes. Sorry you're not going to enjoy movie! This movie has great acting along with a real exploration into the characters. Loved it!

One of GC's best performances and I loved the plot and I bought this movie. It is funny and sad and true to life's "curve balls" one person in the reviews said...this is funny if you don't think so then you haven't lived like I have ....well I have lived like you have and this is funny....yes its sad too but it ends it and enjoy...

  • Expensive

Good movie - not paying $14.99 though. The movie studios are really screwing themselves with this crazy pricing.
  • The Worst

    So depressing. No thank you!
  • Amazing deep story about a man and his daughter

    By GoNWest
The story is about a father reconnecting with his daughter after the wife/mother is injured and is in a coma. Simple quiet hilarious and touching. this is one of my top movies.

the most boring movie I have ever seen!
  • Very long bad drawn out

I won't challenge those who praise the film and I agree that Clooney was great in the film but I don't think it's very entertaining and enjoyable for all audiences. It depends on which genre you prefer and genuinely enjoy. If you like thought provoking dramas, this would be worth the time otherwise I wouldn't expect much. The movie was very mundane and lackluster. Not much happens overall. I wasn't impressed by much. Younger audiences might not enjoy it as much as older audiences. But the performances are emotionally charged but the film is very gloomy at it's core and might leave an eerie, melancholic feeling.
  • Emotional with Hawaiian history, well done!

Emotionally involving ups and downs of family life is done so well that you don’t even realize until it is over that you learned a lot about Hawaii. I was completely involved in this film and never disappointed. Even when I was upset by something I ended up thinking “I hope I would act like that…” Casting was perfect!
