Dickensian is one of the cleverest series I’ve seen. Intermingling characters from various Dickens novels the writers created a whodunnit series based on the death of Marley, Scrooge’s business partner. Miss Haversham is young and getting entangled in a loveless engagement, Tiny Tim is healthy for now, Lady Deadlock is trapped, all have good reason to want to kill Marley! But who did? Best watched by fans of Dickens who are familiar with his works and characters, but anyone can watch this Victorian set mystery and appreciate the depths of his characters and storylines. Just be prepared for the unexpected!

I absolutely love this series. it’s one of the best programs, by far, that the BBC have produced in years. The acting is superb, the cast, incredible, and the plot twists added to traditional Dickens stories and characters is so interesting and clever. The ONLY disappointment is that Dickensian was cancelled after only a single series, reportedly to “make room for other series”!! LIKE WHAT?? More cr*p “reality TV” with the head-banging banality that are “Ant & Dec”?? SERIOUSLY?! Or perhaps more horrid D-list “celebrities” creating drama out of pure ego and desperate need for attention and a sliver of spotlight, maybe people acting like moral voids, running around naked and screwing each other on an island, or more baking, singing, or dancing contests... I wish there was ONE well-done, expertly-executed, superbly-acted series like Dickensian produced per year, rather than a dozen of any of the aforementioned televised detritus the BBC forces down the throats of license-payers. *I’m an American, Southern Californian ex-pat living in the West Midlands of beautiful England, where the countryside is gorgeous, the food mediocre, the people & weather miserable, and BBC TV as horrible as I mentioned, and people who watch said beyond-bad TV, have to pay a “Licensing Fee” of £140.00 per year for the privilege of some of the most vile programming in the world. There are actual vans that drive around detecting the signals from people’s televisions, in order to fine them if they’re not paying their BBC fees
