In 1985, this final version of Hanna-Barbera's Super Friends premiered. Once again headquartered at the Hall of Justice in Metropolis, the Super friends battled such familiar foes as Lex Luthor, Scarecrow and Darkseid. Second only to Challenge of the Super Friends, this animated series was one of the most faithful TV adaptations of DC Comic superheroes ever aired. Like its predecessor, Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show, Galactic Guardians features Adam West as Batman battling alongside Superman and Robin and showcasing relatively new superheroes Firestorm and Cyborg – as well as members of previous Super Friends incarnations (Samurai, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Hawkman, and The Flash). As for the forces of villainy, the show features Darkseid and his minions Kalibak and DeSaad as the primary protagonists. Other DC villains (the Joker, Lex Luthor, the Penguin, Scarecrow, Felix Faust, Joker, The Penguin, Brainiac, and more) also appeared from time to time.

I thought, from growing up to them on Saturday mornings in the early 80's, they always had the Legion of Doom and especially Green Lantern & Flash. I do remember seeing the wonder twins of course, but I thought they were just part of it. I guess I really remember Challenge of the Superfriends the most bc it was the best story telling & def felt like a comic. It looked great, and the stories were memorable. I always remembered "Swamp of the living dead" bc of the old lady & that "Evil Head". Who could forget "Secret Origins of the Superfriends"! That was a Great Episode! Probably my favorite. Now, I'm checking these out & so far so good. Thing is when I bought Challenge of the Superfriends, it said Season 1. Why not say "the complete season". Buying "Superfriends: Volume 2" which was JUST a few Superfriends & no Doom enemies was disappointing. Just wild alien stories that even as a kid I remember not liking them. There's one with Dracula that I remembered as a kid & didn't like. Anyway, glad to see the Super Powers Team. They are pretty good and look great!

OK, seriously...where's the Legion of Doom arcs of this cartoon? The Wonder Twins era sucked when I was a kid (but I watched anyway. Heck, it was a cartoon). It was the days of the Legion of Doom and the follow on Superpowers Team storylines that made the Superfriends awesome!

Next to Challenge Of The Superfriends, it is the finest DC/Hanna-Barbara cartoon ever concieved & produced. Probably the most true to the comic book mythos, Superpowers Team literally feels like an animated comic book. Utterly perfect. Just the right mix of danger, suspence & oh no what will happen next as can possible be imagined. Disappointing that this masterpiece didn't have a longer run. Puzzling. But I guess it's true "The Best Die Young". Download & enjoy hours and hours of rewatchablitly. Then ponder what went terribly wrong with today's excuse for "animation'.
